Association between Soil Acidity and Bacterial Wilt Occurrence in Potato Production in Ethiopia

چکیده

Soil acidity is one of the main constraints to crop production worldwide. In Ethiopia, problem soil has been increasing. Currently, more than 40% cultivated land in country a pH < 5.5. Recently, bacterial wilt (caused by Ralstonia solanacearum) become serious problem, reaching epidemic levels some major potato growing districts country. However, it currently unknown if current outbreak associated with acidification or not. To examine association between and acidification, we conducted field survey experiments detected characterised R. solanacearum strains. The study showed that 50% fields were very strongly acidic (pH 4.5–5.0) incidence was higher low pH. indicated lime application significantly increased (p 0.001) reduced 0.001). applied, stronger positive effect on reduction incidence. Bacterial average 10.8% under 12 t/ha application, while about control plots (without lime) after 90 days. All strains isolated from symptomatic plants Phylotype II. Our findings show Ethiopia acidification. They add understanding risk factors for potato. Aside farm hygiene, sanitation cultural practices, addressing using needs be considered as an additional component integrated package deal conditions.

Soil Acidification Aggravates the Occurrence of Bacterial Wilt in South China

Soil acidification is a major problem in modern agricultural systems and is an important factor affecting the soil microbial community and soil health. However, little is known about the effect of soil acidification on soil-borne plant diseases. We performed a 4-year investigation in South China to evaluate the correlation between soil acidification and the occurrence of bacterial wilt. The res...

Biological control of potato bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum in Ethiopia: Determination of biovars of Ralstonia solanacearum

Ralstonia solanacearum is a very destructive pathogen that causes wilt in potato and many other solanacean crops in Ethiopia. In order to select effective antagonistic biocontrol agents for R. solanacearum strains, it is necessary to characterize the population of pathogenic strains. Therefore, 62 strains collected from wilted potato, tomato and pepper plants and potato tubers from the major po...

Measurement of ACC-Deaminase Production in Halophilic, Alkalophilic and Haloalkalophilic Bacterial Isolates in Soil

Strains with 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity can cause plant growth on stress condition. In the presence of bacteria with the ability of ACC deaminase production in the rhizosphere, it is possible to convert the ethylene precursor (ACC) to α-ketobutyrate  and ammonium, reducing the ethylene levels in host plants. In order to measure the power and level of A...

Potato Wilt and Its Control

A four-year rotation is desirable for potatoes. Proper rotation of crops is one necessary practice for avoiding the holding over of potato diseases in the soil. For potato wilt control at least a four-year rotation should be used. The one shown here makes use of corn, grain, clover, and potatoes. The best basic crop rotation for Western Oregon is grain, clover seed, clover hay, and a cultivated...
